Useful Remedies for Dog Allergies


Allergies affect everyone, even our beloved dogs. Unfortunately, their cuteness does not make them exempt them from the dreaded allergies. Allergies can be of various kinds. It can be allergy to substances like feathers, dust, flea bites, mold spores and chemicals. Dogs can also get allergic to humans or certain types of food. There are many sources of allergens, indeed. Allergens can be inhaled or dogs can get it through direct contact. 

Check if you dog has fleas. It is not uncommon for dogs to get fleas once in their lives. Dogs which are allergic to flea bites will itch and they will continue to scratch themselves. They might even chew on their sores to relieve themselves. If your dog has fleas, you need to give it a bath using a shampoo which is intended for fleas. You can also buy over the counter antihistamines for your dogs. You can use Benadryl or other generic brands. Look for products which only contain diphenhydramine. Remember to only use a single 25mg tablet for every 50 pounds of body weight. If your dog is small, you can just divide the tablet.

Flaxseed oil is also very important. It will strengthen the immunity of your dog’s skin. Flaxseed oil contains essential fatty acids, as well as salmon oil. These can both reduce the effects of allergies reactions. If you have already tried all the possible things to stop the allergies and there is still no relief, you can try another dog food. It is very possible that the food is what is causing the allergies. There are ingredients in food which can cause allergies.

Hygiene is also very important. You have to make sure that your dog’s kennel is cleaned at least once a week. Your dog’s skin is highly sensitive to the urine and feces on the kennel. The kennel floor should be clean and dry. Vacuum you carpet once daily to remove dust and pollen. You can also use spray solutions to get rid of dust mites.
